IPStor Enterprise Software Options and Benefits |
STORAGE CONSOLIDATION
- Centralized storage management
- Heterogeneous storage consolidation
- Data center consolidation
- Data migration from legacy to new storage
|
IPStor® software:
- Centralizes storage and storage services management at the IPStor Console, a single easy-to-use, go-anywhere Java-based interface.
- Maximizes capacity utilization thru consolidation of application servers and heterogeneous disk resources (disk arrays, RAID, tape, etc.) across OS, cabinet,
vendor, and connectivity and interface (Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SATA, ATA, etc.) boundaries.
- Enables leveraging of existing storage/combination with new storage to create both SAN (block level) as well as (file level) NAS resources.
- Simplifies management, lowers TCO by consolidating storage services into the network at the IPStor appliances., offloading them from servers.
|
| Storage Service Enabler Option*: Enables existing disks to be immediately incorporated into an IPStor-managed SAN to take advantage of the full suite of IPStor
storage services without changing original disk partitions/volumes and without any data conversion or migration. |
| Capacity-On-Demand™ Agent: Eliminates out-of-disk-space conditions through automatic, policy-based storage provisioning, data migration, and compression. |
| RealTime Data Migrator™ Option: Facilitates fast, safe data migration with minimal downtime. |
| BootIP™ for Blade Servers Option: Delivers innovative boot over IP services for Windows and Linux-based blade servers for centralized storage management and
rapid system upgrade and recovery to maximize business continuity and return on investment. |
STORAGE CONSOLIDATION
- Nonstop availability of data
- Immediate recovery from hardware, software, and
network failure
|
Active-Active Failover Option: Delivers high data availability. Automatic failover configuration uses two IPStor appliances that can monitor each other’s health.
Should one IPStor appliance fail, the other automatically assumes the failed appliance’s workload without operator intervention. Complements IPStor software’s
support for end-to-end redundancy for no-single-point-of-failure architectures. |
| Synchronous Mirroring Option: Protects against the consequences of storage device/channel failure across local distances. Mirroring of drives can be done within
and across cabinets for superior fault tolerance. |
| Asynchronous Mirroring Option: Provides fault-tolerance for storage volumes over long distances between data centers in near real-time. |
| TimeMark® Option: Provides granular instant roll-back via disk-based journaling to safeguard against “soft-errors” (deletion, corruption, virus...). |
| Continuous Data Replication: Facilitates nearline data storage for enhanced availability. By continuously replicating data to nearline disk, data is protected and can
be rapidly and granularly recovered to a usable point in time. |
| Snapshot Agents: Application-aware, client-based agents minimize quiesce time and ensure transactional integrity and consistency of databases/messaging stores
during snapshot-based operations for fast time-to-recovery. Available for IBM® DB2 UDB®, Informix®, Microsoft® SQL Server, Oracle®, Sybase®, IBM Lotus Notes®, Microsoft Exchange |
| Backup and BareMetal Recovery Agent + Option: Expedites system recovery after boot disk failure of an application server, laptop, desktop, etc. |
| DynaPath® Agent and IP Trunking Option: Each of these services enables multi-pathing and load balancing for intelligent re-routing of data if components in I/O
path between storage and application servers fail. |
| MultiPathing Option: Ensures availability of data stored on FC-attached storage, transparently rerouting traffic to a redundant storage path in the event of a storage
path failure between the IPStor appliance and the storage pools. |
| NIC Express: Extends the scope of redundancy beyond the SAN, all the way to the edges of the network – to any server or workstation. |
| Message Recovery for Exchange Option: Automates and expedites mailbox and message recovery, maximizing availability and performance. |
| RealTime Virus Scanning for NAS: Provides realtime protection for NAS shares from becoming infiltrated and contaminated by malicious viruses. |
DISASTER RECOVERY
- Continuity of business operations in the event of site failure
- Reliable remote data protection in the event that primary data is destroyed
|
Remote Replication Option: Enables sites to replicate just the delta-changes across any distance via IP to same or dissimilar hardware for continuous business
operations in case of a site-level disaster. |
| Continuous Data Replication: Delivers enhanced disaster protection by continuously replicating data to a remote disk. In the event of a disaster, data can be rapidly
and granularly recovered from the remote storage to a usable point in time. |
| Asynchronous Mirroring Option: Provides fault-tolerance for storage volumes over long distances between data centers in near real-time. |
| FileSafe™ Agent: Protects DAS-based application servers and enduser workstations, as well as systems using third party storage networks, by enabling them to
replicate individual files and directories to remote PStor-managed storage for automated data protection, off-site data storage, backup, and disaster recovery. |
| DiskSafe™ Agent: Protects DAS-based application servers and enduser workstations, as well as servers using third party storage networks, by enabling them to
replicate their entire disk(s) to remote IPStor-managed storage for automated data protection, off-site data storage, backup, and disaster recovery. |
| Snapshot Agents minimize quiesce time & ensure transactional integrity/consistency of databases/messaging stores for fast time-to-recovery. |
BACKUP CONSOLIDATION AND ACCELERATION
- Ultra-fast, windowless tape backup of
live data
- Consolidated backup management
- Dramatic enhancement of standard, off-the shelf backup applications
|
HyperTrac™ Backup Solution (HyperTrac Backup Accelerator Agent + TimeMark Option): Up to 5x faster file-by-file or block-level tape backup (full, incremental,
differential) and rapid restore using existing backup software/server while offloading backup processes from production servers. Little/no impact on application servers
or LAN. Minimizes number of backup licences, minimizing TCO and simplifying management. No need to purchase and manage expensive push agents, open file agents,
backup software agents, SAN options, etc. |
| ZeroImpact™ Backup Solution (ZeroImpact Backup Enabler Option + TimeMark Option): Up to 5x faster block-level tape backup (full, incremental, differential) and
rapid restore, with backup software running on the IPStor appliance. Offloads backup processes from production servers for little/no impact on application servers
or LAN. Centralizes backup management. Need only 1 copy of tape backup software: TCO is minimized, management is simplified. No need to purchase and manage
expensive push agents, open file agents, backup software agents, SAN options, etc. |
| Snapshot Agents minimize quiesce time & ensure transactional integrity/consistency of databases/messaging stores for fast time-to-recovery. |
PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION
- Powerful enhancement of I/O speed
- Maximizes application performance
|
HotZone® Option: Enhances read/write performance by identifying frequently used areas of disks and transparently auto-remapping them to faster storage, such as SSDs. |
| SafeCache™ Option: Delivers fail-safe caching using persistent fast disks, such as SSDs, as a non-volatile read/write cache area to accelerate slower disks. |
| DynaPath Agent: IP Trunking Option: Distributes data along multiple paths, increasing bandwidth for superior throughput and load balancing to optimize I/O. |
| Disk Striping Option: Provides software RAID 0 for greatly improved I/O performance using standard disk drives by spreading the I/O load across all drives in the
set. Ideal for applications that require high throughput. |
| |
| *IPStor base software has virtualization functionality built in, but users can opt to utilize storage services without virtualizing data by using the Storage Service Enabler Option. |
